Save Ellis Island, in partnership with the National Park Service, will rehabilitate and re-dedicate 30 buildings on Ellis Island one of the largest historic preservation projects in America -- as the Ellis Island Institute and Conference Center. Housed in the historic structures that once served as the U. S. Public Health Services hospital for ill and infirm immigrants, and enabled by the power they hold, the Ellis Island Institute has a unique opportunity to provide the location for high level discussions, public discourse and educational programs to bring these issues to audiences worldwide.
To date, your support made it possible to complete the restoration on the Ferry Building, connecting corridors and Laundry/Hospital Outbuilding. Your support made it possible for an exhibit to be installed in the Ferry Building. Your support makes it possible for Save Ellis Island to assist the National Park Service in the development and implementation of programming for workshops attended by thousands of teachers and students annually.
Your continued support will allow Save Ellis Island to help the National Park Service restore and beneficially re-use one of our nation’s most cherished icons where the dream of creating the Ellis Island Institute and Conference Center within these majestic buildings will become a reality celebrating the spirit of immigrants everywhere while addressing some of the world’s most pressing issues in public health, diversity and immigration
