Since 2006, the Ellis Island Institute has offered professional development workshops for teachers from all parts of the country, and overseas. The Institute has hosted week-long workshops for language arts teachers on the literature of immigration and science teachers on the science behind historic preservation in partnership with Columbia University’s graduate program in historic preservation. The Institute also convenes single day workshops for school districts in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Connecticut. The Institute has also worked in partnership with school districts which have federal Teaching American History grants, hosting one day workshops for teachers from as far away as California.
